“I do what feels good, keep just a few good people around, eat well, sleep well, try to always think well, I´m domestic, passionate, love life, travel, laughter and I am addicted to taking photos, eating good food and drinking wine from time to time at a perfect sunset.”
Magdalena Wosinska´s professional and personal photographic work is spitting with a lust for life, authenticity and photographic perfection. Well, not for nothing is the list of clients she has worked for pretty endless. Adidas, Urban Outfitters, Apple, Converse, Sony, Mercedes, just to name a few, and the list is as long as varied. We talked to the incredible talent about her experience to emigrate to the US as a child, why being on water makes one grounded and about her personal project themagdalenaexperience, where she poses nude in front of breathtaking scenery and places that she encounters during her travels.
Magdalena, in your interviews and on the images you seem like a very laid-back but at the same time focused person. Is that how you are, and is this the secret combination for your success?
My images are based off of me just watching what´s around me and for that you have to be present, and to be present you have to be both laid back and focused.
You were born in Poland but came to the US at a very young age. Why did your family emmigrate over there and how did this experience shape you as a person?
We moved over in 1991. It was a struggle for sure, such culture shock and I didn’t speak the language. I had to change my view of things but it has shaped me new and to who I am now.
“My images are based off of me just watching what´s around me and for that you have to be present, and to be present you have to be both laid back and focused.”
With your nude images, themagdalenaexperience, posing in wonderful landscapes you want to create something timeless. What is it exactly that do you want to be mostly remembered for by people when they think of this sort of work of yours?
I never really had an intention of having people remember me by anything. I do things just to do them for myself without validation from others.
Talking about nude, what is your opinion about the Playboy changing ist attitude and for the first time since its start not showing nude anymore? A sign that society becomes more prude or more feminist?
Hmmm, I haven’t really seen much of the new playboy, so I can´t really speak much on that topic….
“I do things just to do them for myself without validation from others.”
You have been travelling to so many beautiful places and were once sailing with four of your best friends from Antiqua to Grenada and you said about it: „I am so thankful for this experience, because it is so inspiring to see the world from the view of the sea“ Can you describe what sort of inspiration it gave you and what it has taught you about life?
There is nothing more magical then traveling by boat. Surprisingly it´s very grounding even though one is on water. You make the effort to see every sunrise and you never miss a sunset, the flow of the water when you sleep cradles you into a deep meditation. It´s just magic. Any time I´m on a boat Im grateful. And it´s such an ancient way to get around, it just blows my mind to see the world from that point of view!
In one interview where you got asked about your thoughts on the selfie-generation you replied that you dont really follow that and most oft he time you live in your own world. I´d love to hear how you would describe this world you live in?
It changes daily, but it´s a big life in a small world I guess. I do what feels good, keep just a few good people around, eat well, sleep well, try to always think well, I´m domestic, passionate, love life, travel, laughter and I am addicted to taking photos, eating good food and drinking wine from time to time at a perfect sunset.
Are you currently working on a new photographic book or the short film?
I am, but I´m not sharing what its about yet:)
“There is nothing more magical then traveling by boat. You make the effort to see every sunrise and you never miss a sunset.”
It´s a funny detail on your website that the mouse scroll sign is a heavy metal finger sign. You played in a metal band as a bassist for 8 years. How did this end and are you still into playing music somehow?
It´s funny people always assume I played bass. Ive never played the bass in my life. I played the guitar. 6 strings not 4 haha. It was time for that ship to sail and it ended 4 years ago. But I actually have been thinking of playing again. So if I find the time, it might happen!
The themes of your books change according to your surrounding and age. Could you think of a title in let´s say 10 years?
