hello friends! I am back in Berlin from an extended weekend getaway in Naples, Italy. normally at this time of year Berliners expect to see dreary, grey skies and snow on the ground but this winter has been an unusually warm one. so while I miss Naples very much [already!], returning back and being greeted with sunny, blue skies with brisk 5°C temperatures…I really can’t complain. not one bit.
oh yeah, and for those that don’t know me, I am Tanya Min Jee, the newest contributor to the amazing C-heads magazine! yes, I consider myself a very lucky gal because like the peeps at C-heads, I am an individual who absolutely needs to be surrounded by creativity, beautiful imagery, and an environment that embraces my independent thinking. I have been known to be little loud, somewhat silly, and, for the most part, kinda strange—polite people refer to me as “unique” and “colorful”—but it’s all the same to me. originally born in South Korea but raised American in beautiful Seattle, Washington USA, I migrated on my own to Berlin without any friends, job leads, or knowing one word of German in the summer of 2013. crazy? perhaps, but my time in the EU has exceeded my expectations so in hindsight, my move to Berlin is the best decision I have made in my life to date. anyways, I am digressing…let’s get back to the amazing city I had the opportunity to explore and play in for 3 whole days!
Naples, a Southern Italian city nestled in the region of Campania, is situated on many hills. with a beautiful view of Mount Vesuvius only several kilometers away and a gorgeous seashore lined with alabaster white rocks, one cannot help but be awe-struck by the surroundings. if I could sum up Naples in a few key words, it would be: vibrant, young, fresh, colorful, creative, expressive, multi-faceted and alive; it’s a gritty city that lacks order and structure yet it seems to be well on its way towards revival from many years of rumored danger and petty crime. I really couldn’t have asked for a better experience in Naples; not only did I feel completely safe throughout my stay there, but I was impressed on how forthright and helpful the locals were when you asked for assistance. all in all, a really beautiful, multi-dimensional, must-see city that will not fail in captivating all of your five senses.
