“The worst things about São Paulo is also what makes it the best…”
Isabela Talamini is a cool kid from the hip hop scene in Sao Paulo and we usually see her at all the vivid parties in town. “We always wanted to make some pictures of her outside the club envirinment.” tells photographer Marina Abadjieff of We Are Alive Agency. In the interview Isabela talks about the beautiful things of her hometown, the vibe of New York and the reason behind all her life choices. Art direction by Pedro Beck.
What is a typical day for a cool kid from Sao Paulo?
Wake up. Check music news feed (in case you missed anything during the night). Shower. Coffee. Try to cook a decent meal. Fail miserably. Gym (to remind yourself you’re a human being). Try to work on any of your hundred different projects. Check what other people are doing with their lives. Coffee. Existential issues. Tumblr. Sleep. All cool kids want to look like they have super interesting lives but we all know it’s a lie. At the end of the day we’re all writing how excited we are about stuff while in the couch wearing sweatpants and watching Netflix.
What is music for you?
Everything. I built my whole life around music. Although for me it’s not about making music or only listening to it. I live for it. I started my own blog with my brother when I was fourteen and from that moment I knew it was going to define my life. Every person I bonded with after that had to do with what I was doing, so it is basically the reason behind all my life choices. Right now I’m working on a project to launch a music collective, I select new artists for a playlist featured every couple weeks at brazilian Vice’s website and I finally decided to learn how to DJ (If nobody’s playing Migos at the club here, I might as well do it myself).
The best thing about Sao Paulo. And the worst?
Worst things about São Paulo is also what makes it the best, haha. It’s dirty, stressful, depressive, claustrophobic and lonely. But also addictive. You think you wanna run away but after a few days you miss it. It’s kind of horribly amazing. When people tell me it’s ugly I always say that in a weird way that’s what makes it beautiful.

Best city in the world to listen to live hip hop?
Definitely New York. I’m lucky I had the opportunity to visit a lot of different cities, so I’m pretty sure New York has the most special vibe when it comes to music. Specially hip hop, that’s where it all came from, it’s part of the city’s history. And today, if you get in a store they’ll probably be playing Young Thug. If you walk in the streets you hear cars blasting Kanye, or some old school rap. You look around and all kids look like they’re either into Pro Era or Yung Lean. All girls copying Twigs’ hair style. You can actually talk about Drake’s new album as an IRL topic – with your taxi driver. I learned that the Empire State turned the lights blue at the night Blue Ivy was born. I mean, if someone asks you who’s NYC’s first lady and you don’t automatically get Beyonce’s face on your head you’re lying.
Where can we find you on a friday night?
If I feel adventurous I got out to the club with my friends. Turn up, go back home and regret it the next day. But mostly I think too much before going out so I end up just staying home eating junk food and watching the novela, followed by the lowest rated horror movie I find.
Where do you see yourself in the future?
At Oprah’s house, teaching her how to do the passinho do romano
