“I think the beauty of social media is people can gloss over the tough times and create a happy mood board for their life that they might reflect back to sometimes to make them smile and realise there are plenty of good times or there are people who like to reveal there struggles to either give strength to other or just to themselves.”
Sydney based babe Aisha Jade talks about her time on Big Brother, her tattoos and the beauty of social media. Photographed by Lauren Engel in Pier One Sydney Harbour with styling done by Lara Camilleri and make-up by Veronica Moreira.
Do you plan to do blogging for the next few years or do you have another career path you would like to try?
I would be so happy doing blogging for the next few years but I would also love to try my hand at TV presenting.
What was being on Big Brother like?
It was surreal – being in a house with so many different types of personalities. To be honest, you completely forget you are being filmed or even on a show. I have to admit as much as I missed keeping in contact with my family, I loved the whole no phones thing.
How has Big Brother changed your life?
In so many ways. Before big brother nobody knew who I was and now I get stopped for photos (still feels weird.) I went in to Big Brother single as ever and came out with a boyfriend, my career has changed and now I am lucky enough to be a part of so many cool projects.
What did you do before then?
I worked for Nike and I was the Door bitch of a nightclub.
How did you transition your popularity from the show into blogging?
I guess it just naturally flowed that way, my following sky rocketed so fast and I just started posting about what I was wearing and thankfully people were liking what I was putting out. So I ran with it.
What plans do you have for the rest of the year?
Jobs tend to get booked very last minute so its hard to plan. I’m currently working on a website that will be launching soon so that will keep me busy for the second half of this crazy year. I am also hoping to branch out and do a bit more travel blogging and stuff like that.
What do you have in mind for your website coming up?
You will have to wait and see :)
Social media brings upon a new dimension of perfection–where only superficial perfect life moments are exposed. What are your thoughts on the dark moments in life which aren’t shown?
I think the beauty of social media is people have the right to show you what they want to show, they can gloss over the tough times and create a happy mood board for their life that they might reflect back to sometimes to make them smile and realise there are plenty of good times or there are people who like to reveal there struggles to either give strength to other or just to themselves.
What is the meaning behind your tattoos and their significance in your life?
My tattoos are usually last minute decisions too but I make sure I love it whole heartedly before the needle hits my skin. Each tattoo has a different meaning or story behind it, but most of them are for family. My swallow was for my grandad who passed away when I was 17; he was a rough sailor and was covered in tatts himself, he had about 6 swallows on him. My arrows on the back of my arm and my family tree. The anchor on my wrist is for my brother my dad and my grandad who were all fisherman. And the quote on the inside of my arm is a little quote for myself to keep me driven.
