“The most important thing that I have learned in the past years is to just keep making music, the second you become jaded by it something is wrong. The best thing to do is never stop creating.”
We had a chat with Dutch DJ and producer Fedde Le Grand about if social networks can define success, his upcoming musical plans and nostalgic feelings about the time when he had his first break-through hit.
You have an incredible busy touring/ Djing schedule – especially in summer with all those parties and festivals. Are there moments where you wish that you would have chosen a more quiet lifestyle and job?
Never! Although, I’ve never tried a quiet life…so I don’t know what to compare it to. My entire proffessional career has been in music, which is what I wanted to do from a young age. Of course there are moments when it can get quite frantic and tiring but if I wished I was doing something else I wouldn’t be in the right job. You have to learn to embrace all aspects of your job.
Best party crowd within this year so far?
Tough one, but actually Palmesus in Norway is always so insanely welcoming to me, I love coming back there so I’m happy the invite seems to be yearly ;) At the same time I love the Ultra family and being back in Croatia is always good… You know what, I really can’t make a pick, plus summer has just started… Can’t wait to see what Germany will bring!! They have got a lot to live up to but I’m sure they’ll do it. Always a great atmosphere there!
You have over 2 million fans on facebook. How important are those „numbers“ for you in order to feel successful?
Haha funny question! I don’t think they’re important to feel succesful, I think they’re important when the numbers are real and they reflect your real fans. Social Media is such a wonderful thing. I mean nowadays it’s so much easier to be in touch with your fans throughout, instead of only while touring. I love touring and the more one-on-one live connection with your fans, but you just can’t be in more than one place at the same time. So yes, I love social media I guess :)
Do you get nostalgic when you listen to your break-through hit ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit’?
It makes me happy, always. It’s what really kickstarted my journey so I always feel proud of it. Bringing back such memories indeed. At the time I was scrambling together money for a pack of cigarettes while in the studio, I had this track layed down but wasn’t sure about it somehow, one of my best friends told me to just go for it, why not… He’s still one of my best friends and we’re even working together, it’s amazing what life journeys can be put on you!
How do you see the electronic music scene at the moment. It´s pretty overhelming with all the different genres and artist, but has it gained in quality as well?
It definitely has, what people are producing now is some oft he best dance music ever. Across the board in all genres. Especially in sound the improvement is continuously astonishing. But at the same time the more genres emerge the better the effect is on the far spread reach dance music has already established and will hopefully only continue to grow!
Who do you currently admire from within the scene?
Carl Cox! He keeps innovating and I love that, plus great guy all-round. Love Eric Prydz too, his show is awesome. And Nicky (Romero) is one of the best guys out there. A lot of guys doing a great job at the moment actually!
What´s your upcoming plans music wise?
A new album!!!! Also my current single Cinematic is still doing really well which I’m super hyped about: www.flg.dj/cinematic-buy Can’t wait to drop more singles of the forthcoming album :)
„For me, it’s essential to keep learning and pushing all the time. Every year I take a look back on what’s worked and what’s not, then make sure that I learn from my mistakes and move things up a gear with what went well.“ Is a quote by you. What´s the most important thing that you have learned in the past years?
To just keep making music, the second you become jaded by it something is wrong. The best thing to do is never stop creating.
And what has been the biggest mistake in your career so far?
Ha, never have any regrets!
Sunrise or sunset?
Hmmm, sunrise.
Do you believe in starsigns?
To a degree, yeah!

I recently decided to quit my job and start freelancing. I admit, this is not an easy path at all and I had to look for different work offers on the Internet. So I found an article https://www.prrcomputers.com/blog/what-is-a-freelance-proposal/ with a detailed explanation of freelance offers and decided to take advantage of it. Thanks to PandaDoc templates, I was able to create excellent freelance proposals and of course it changed my approach to the work process.
