Parisian photographer and skateboarder Jonayd Cherifi uses photography as a way of expression that he finds easier than with words. Something we totally get. Sometimes you need a lot more words to describe something as precise as a photo can do.
Saying that though taking a good image that is not just a random photocopy of an instant, something lifeless maybe, is just as difficult as finding the right words. Well, we have to say though that Jonayd is good in both, he summed up his work just as beautiful in words as he communicates through his visual performance. “I love to shoot the instant, the natural, the authentic. To take pictures, I observe and try to melt into the mass, to soak up myself. I think it’s by doing abstraction of yourself in the moment that we can see all the beauties and wonders that surround us. We can be happy just by being conscious of what’s under our eyes. Having an eye isn’t the whole thing, sensibility is what makes the difference. I’m just feeling this sensation, it’s like being excited, but i feel it more like adrenaline. It’s like when you skateboarding and succeeding in doing your tricks. Well in photography that’s what I look for, this excitement, this adrenaline. Actually for me it’s a way of expression because I’ve always had troubles to express myself properly by talking. The truth is that I offset through photography which really became my mean of expression.”
