The sense of freedom, joy and wilderness.
After many years of working in the digital market Brazilian filmmaker and photographer Rodrigo Zan sold his company and moved to LA to follow his biggest passion; making films. In the meantime he has already directed 3 short films, “Moments”, “Blue Bird”, “Seeking the Joy”, and is now working his first feature film. His photographs make you remember again the happiness of those moments where you are just surrounded by great landscape, people you like; simple moments that bare a lot of freedom. We had a short and interesting chat with him about the fascination of visual and written art and where he sees the current young generation in the future.
Few Lines about photography
The beauty of photography is the magic of perspective, and I still believe that it’s all about that. Some people say it’s the idea, the momentum, but for me photography still is the mystery of the perspective of the guys behind those lenses.
Equipment
Nikon FM10, Hasselblad 300c , Fuji X-E2 , My lenses are Nikon non-ai and my films are usually Portra 800
What makes you happy
Serve, go on the road, and connect with people and nature.
What make you sad
Rejection
Your favorite photograph and why ?
My favorites photo constantly changes, bur for now this is the one. The main reason is the feeling that I have when I watch this scene. The sense of freedom, joy and wilderness.
What fascinates you about writing?
I don’t really know, I’m still figuring that out, but there is something about words, maybe the simplicity of a pen and a paper to create something and to attract people with that. That simplicity to express myself is beauty to my eyes and my hands.
Words or Images ?
You know that is a tricky question for me. I’m a very visual guy, and usually both words and images go hand in hand for me. I can’t write if I can’t imagine, or pre-visualize, and that also works the other way around.
Where do you see the future of your generation ?
It’s very complicated to analyze that and give you a simple answer for such a broad theme, but something that comes to my mind, and that I can say now, is that one day we will pay to disconnect from the internet and reconnect with ourselves in a deeper level. I see this generation with the necessity of disconnection from this mixed multimedia that insists in distracting us from the ability to dedicate ourselves to execute a vision. We are probably gonna realize that one day!
