Mimi was in the middle of a breakup when she contacted me & wanted to shoot in her Altamonte Springs apartment. It seemed to tell its own story that the place hadn’t been tidied when I showed up for the first time and I thought it would be nice to incorporate that into the shoot. Even with the weed the usual conversation and banter didn’t seem to completely diminish the underlying sense of melancholy she had about her; in fact it was so subtle that I didn’t really notice how much it actually showed until the images were complete. Albeit without mentioning that to the viewer I think it would appear more like a sense of longing.
Anyway, after a couple hours or so at her home, near dusk, she drove me to a field near her complex with an abandoned clubhouse surrounded by evergreen trees and tall grass. We talked there and continued shooting until the sun had set, and as the temperature dropped she covered herself in a blanket she’d had in her car. It was those last few shots of her there, wrapped up in that blanket, where I got the most evocative portraits of her–vulnerable, mournful, yearning–true beauty.

She’s so beautiful. The female body is one of life’s great wonders.
