Behind the runways of New York City these ladies are getting ready for the show. It’s Fashion Week and the madness seems to never stop; castings, fittings, rehearsals, hair, make-up, killer heels, “It’s show time!” and on to the next. They must be so tired, I think, and yet, aware of all the lenses around them, these girls are ever ready to pose. I try not to be in their way and so I observe them from a distance, hypnotized by their beauty. I’m most intrigued by how they act when they don’t feel my camera pointing at them. Most of them are on their phones at all times, scrolling through social media apps, trying to kill the endless hours of waiting for those five minutes in the spotlight. Some have become friends, and joke, and laugh, and find comfort in each other’s company; but from where I stand, it looks like a lonely life. Maybe this is why they are all so polite and friendly, always willing to greet you with a smile. I really do hope that when the make-up comes off at night, these gorgeous faces get everything they’ve ever wished for.
