A poem by Inny Taylor
Sisters
Inside an apartment by the train tracks above ground
Wine and whining
About boys who will never call back,
Laughter and gummy worms
Because boys who will never call back,
Never have and it’s funny–
We’re funny like the idea of green aliens with big oval black eyes–
And then there are our girls who like girls
Who just broke up with a girl–
This is Mars where earth has disappeared
Perfectly strange, new, safe,
Together we are beautiful minds, beautiful bodies, long hair–and haircuts:
Friends who have all been friends for a long time,
Traveling through now and yesterday;
Ten months later I’m not sure if she’ll still hold her same spot at the
table–
Maybe she’ll move two to the left
But she won’t have left–
The thing is we are always here,
Even complicated we are always together,
Always shining like the greatest constellation,
Only sometimes rearranged,
We are of the earth; connected by the stars:
Sisters
