Each city has its history, its clichés and its reasons why people want to live there. New York has attracted people from everywhere for decades to explore or to find ones new home there. But each cliché also has its time and there comes always a time for a new generation to take over and write new chapters. Marco Hernandez, a New York based photographer sums up pretty well in words the way he feels about today´s New York and accentuates this with raw, analogue images to give a foretaste of what stories will be told of our times.
“Skateboarding in New York City is constantly evolving, now especially since there are many new faces coming into the city, many new companies getting started, almost like its the new renaissance. We all talk about the good old times in new york, now it’s time to focus on the new guys, this is the new New York. The city used to be dangerous and hectic, which made it fun when I was first coming in the city as a teenager, a lot of the time I used to cut school just to go skating around, it’s pretty cliche to say, but NYC has raised me. Now, there are coffee shops on almost every corner, people moving from all over the country to the city, it’s actually pretty awesome to see many new faces out here, the rooftop parties are always something to appreciate, there are more artists and photographers emerging, almost like this is the new renaissance. The past represented just the simple life, skating around without a care, just living day by day, now all the new kids are taking over, being innovative, starting brands, making videos, making music, I think it’s pretty amazing to see all of this happen so fast over a small period of time. People like to talk about the past a lot, but those days are over, it’s time to let the new kids get some.”
