DORM LIFE
We are sure about one thing. If there was anything else important we had to do now, such as learning for an exam, Anna would definitely keep us from doing so. Why? Well, you will see for yourself. Besides being a student at the FIT studying photography, she knows how to present herself really well also in front of the camera. Photographer Atisha Paulson tells us about the interesting concept behind this fantastic C-Heads exclusive story and once more also shows his talent for creating a natural connection between himself and his photographic subject: “I wanted it to be super casual, her hanging out in her dorm room, studying, drawing, taking pics out the window, doing laundry, listening to music. A sorta insight into her world, the world of an freshman art student in NYC. I also think it’s sorta interesting that she’s studying photography but was also willing to be the subject of the story. Most photographers I know don’t like it when the camera’s pointed at them. I was open to any ideas she had and wanted the story to have some semblance of a female gaze/perspective to lend a more balanced feeling to the story. Basically, I didn’t want it to be just me looking at her. I wanted it to be how she saw me seeing her – if that makes sense.” It absolutely does make sense. “I recently did this cool collaboration with another female photographer where we shot the same model in the same look/set up to see how our gaze differed. So the questions coming up are: How does a man see a woman? How does a woman see a woman? How does a woman allow herself to be photographed by a man vs. woman. It was so interesting to see how we see each other and what she found beautiful and sexy vs what I did.” Anna took some photos on her canon AE-1 35mm film while hanging out with Atisha too and we are more then happy to include some of them too. Enjoy!
