“The more you don’t know the more you want to know. Movement is life; and for me it’s Tokyo.”
Julie Shurmelyova is from Belarus but is currently living in one of the cities, that appears so fascinating for us, Tokyo. “I love Tokyo. I hope this city can give me the opportunity to be here for longer. I was always attracted to Japanese fashion and culture. But the most striking thing is that despite the fact that the culture of this city is almost like being on Mars for a European, and its pace of life is incredibly crazy – Tokyo feels the most comfortable city for living to me. I inwardly feel that we are on the same wave length. Of course to fully understand Japan you must be born Japanese which scares me in a way as I can only see myself here for now. But the more you don’t know the more you want to know. Movement is life; and for me it’s Tokyo.” Julie has always been around photography, either as a model or working as a retoucher, studying advertising, doing styling or painting. And one day all those images from her previous work experiences summed up as a sort of puzzle in her head, spitting out an infinite number of photographs. A few of her strong works incl. her Tokyo images we want to show you today.
