“Fashion is everything that is loved by people and made with imagination. We create fashion with our style, our thoughts, with colors that we love.”
Turkish fashion designer Seyma Selman and her label thirty three impresses with timless and traditional elements combined with an extremly young and fresh interpretation of them. In each piece you can feel the diligence of something hand-crafted, without ever coming onto the track of being antiquated. We did a short interview with her about how her story started and where it will go and furthermore feature photographer Ünal Usta who captured model Cansu Uncu wearing thirty three designs. What sparked your interest in fashion?
Thanks to my mother my childhood was lived in a house which had the sound of the sewing machine and we used to make new things and then combined them together. So I “met with fashion” when I was little.
Define “Fashion.”
Everything that is loved by people and made with imagination. We create fashion with our style, our thoughts, with colors that we love.
Are you self taught or did you study fashion design?
I can say that I learnt sewing from my mother. I was watching my mother while she was sewing clothes. At the age of 12 or 13 I picked up the courage to sew a swimsuit. And that is how my story started. After that I started to draw sketches and enrolled into a fashion course at the university.
And tell us about Fashion in Turkey.
In Turkey the opinion of people for fashion has chanced. Previously most people had the tendency to buy clothes off the peg but nowadays handmade designs have become much more important. As someone who does make handmade designs I am happy to see that people value manual labor things.
What are your favourite materials to work with?
I really like patterned fabrics when it comes to clothes and I like to combine American cloth and leather.
Your favorite fashion – accessoire?
That would have to be a hat, wear whatever you wear and a hats put the final touch. It makes your clothes classic or punk.
The most important thing in life?
I think the most important thing in life is patience. We can suddenly lose many things by being impatient. This applies both for my personal life and also for my work. For example, I am interested in every detail of my design such as choosing material, template, cutting, sewing, sometimes photo shootings. For making handmade things you really need to be patient and being patient brings happiness to me everytime.
When was the last time that you have laughed out loud?
I laughed very much but if I tell you this I would reveal a secret :)
Where do you see yourself in the future?
I don’t know what I will encounter or which doors will open for me but my goals are big and let’s see them together.

The durability and flexibility of vinyl stickers make them ideal for outdoor applications such as signs and banners. I was interested in https://www.vinylcutter.eu/. They can withstand rain, sun and wind while maintaining their color and integrity over time, which is important for maintaining a professional appearance.
