Through the eyes of Australian lovers, travelers Madeline Relph & Jourdan Bowen
We’re surprised to see that Madeline and Jourdan aren’t in every travel lifestyle publication, their perspective and photography is stunning! We chat with them about travel, life, love and everything in between.
Tell us about your upbringing, where are you from, what did you like doing as a kid, what do you enjoy doing now?
I grew up on the northern beaches of Sydney regularly hitting the beach with the occasional camping trip. When I was 13 I moved to Adelaide, where I met Jourdan, he lived three houses down and I was the paper girl on his street. I always enjoyed any outdoor activities and still do today.. I don’t last too long indoors.
How did you get into modeling? Do you model fulltime?
I started doing a few things here and there in Adelaide when I was around 14. I never take it too seriously and just enjoy myself while I’m working. Right now I’m doing a few bits and pieces between study.
How are you able to travel to such stunning places? Do you do this all year round? Which places are on your bucket list?
Many could and do travel this way, but understandably it’s not for everybody. We stay in modest accommodation and use local transport almost always. It really is no holiday. It can become quite tiring. Usually our trips span from a few weeks to a few months. We generally choose to come home when it suits us, with most times not spending all our savings. Bar tending and labouring, it’s an honest living. It’s always important we get straight back to the grind and save where we can for the next adventure.
The bucket list is just any where new and different that will bring us to experience cultures, traditions and history.
Which place of the locations you’ve been to do you feel the most connection to and why?
I suppose I feel most connected to rural Australia as it was the places I would visit as a child that bring back feelings of nostalgia toward the land.
How did you get into photography?
Jourdan is usually the one capturing the photos, I suppose it developed naturally through our travels. Although he claims to be a total amateur when it comes to photography.
What is your inspiration for your photography? Do you shoot on a digital/film camera?
Our inspiration is generally the different people we meet and places we see. We are yet to make use of an analog camera on a trip but are interested in getting involved.
How different is it to travel with someone you love?
I’m not sure if it’s the same for all travellers in love but I find we are drawn closer to each other when we travel, it seems like it’s meant to be, it’s fluid.
What is your opinion on true love?
It’s a good thing if your lucky enough to find someone who loves you the same way you love them. A real good thing.
