Timeless encounters
It’s always interesting when two souls collaborate together, shooting each other and modelling for one another. Model and photographer Nina Sever and photographer and designer Janine Mizera made each other look into their souls. Enjoy the two sets.
“I first met Janine years ago in Florence, where I was living at the time and full time modelling. She contacted me via Deviant Art, then we sorted out our shoot. Her entrance in my life was quick and silent, but it was the loudest connection to echo in the back of my brain. I felt her beauty through her pictures first, then I saw her in person and I thought that one day I’ll be photographing her, that day I’ll be good enough. Her portraits of me are timeless and still my best emotional images.” tells Nina Sever.
“I met Janine other couple of times through the years, she shot me more, but I still was not ready to grab my camera and do something tangible to represent our friendship. I tried, but it just felt frustrating. I guess… digital photography is just not my thing. So in the end, the last April 2016, I went to Berlin to live the city, to breathe again, to meet my friends, to be drawn into my lover’s arms. I was going through so many emotions, from pain and love at the same time, so when I had a quick coffee with Janine and I discovered she was going through a weird period of her life as well, I decided it was the time to impress her essence on my analogue camera.
“It’s heart-warming to have these films in my hands, it’s like I can hug her again.”
So I did. Few days after that coffee, I went to her place in Boddinstrasse and we sat, had a tea, and talked. I felt so peaceful, I always do next to her, she is an amazing human being, an impressive artist, I felt honoured to take the pictures of her, I finally had the right tools to let that energy flow. This is simply the result of a pure friendship. It doesn’t matter where we are and at what time of our life, we know we exist and that we’ll meet again. It’s heart-warming to have these films in my hands, it’s like I can hug her again. I really cannot find any other way to represent our connection if not through analogue photography. She shot me too straight after, it was magic as I remembered it, we stood silent, we laughed, we shared something so special!
When is going to be the next time together? I don’t know, I’m just sure it will happen, and it’s the most reassuring feeling.”
