We accompany photographer Asher Moss and model Melodi Meadows into the desert´s solitude. On 35mm film Asher serves us some quality time away from it all.
Desert Electricity.
No service.
We find the more we disconnect from the modern electric universe the more we are charged with abundant amounts of energy that both satisfy and feed the hunger that drives us. Living out here has never been so good. Feeding on the atoms of one another while hiking and breathing in the fresh desert air and consuming the ever-abundant hot sun as each new day brings a new adventure. Phones off, eyes open.
There is no place like this.
We have been many places, and could go elsewhere but we always end up in Joshua Tree. People talk about the magic that exists here like it’s some kind of existential planetarium. But no one I know has ever been able to put it into words. It may be because the best things have nothing to do with language but emotion, energy, feeling and enlightenment. Listen to your insides, if you go somewhere that keeps pulling you back, return until it shows you what you need to see.
There are no colors like the desert.
Just sit, wait and watch the sun rise and fall. You will be different from this very simple practice. We found that sitting in silence is the most beneficial to one’s self. There are no better sunsets in all the world than the deserts and they will teach you about life. Listen to the sun, keep your heart and mind open.
Simplify.
We brought almost nothing. In order to avoid being pre-occupied with distractions we intentionally only brought the most basic supplies along with a few books and our tent. This allowed for an abundant amount of exploration with our landscape, each other and ourselves. As the world grows louder and more obnoxious, the more we retreat into our little corners to find and create things that actually last.
The desert calls to us, always asking when we will be home.
