“Our music focuses on the fantasy of rock ’n’ roll and our art deals with human emotion. The musical arrangement of melodies normally stems from our ability to channel each other’s next impulse. For “NMT” (produced by Twin Shadow), we are aiming to infuse the poignancy of contemporary art with the potency of post new wave. The below is what inspires us.”

Nostalgia
As artists its important to draw inspirations from real life situations. When George (Twin Shadow) played us the track for “NMT” we were instantly consumed with nostalgia of past relationships and all the feelings that accompany them. The guitars and mood of the composition gave us a 90’s r&b, chill wave vibe, and melodies just starting pouring out of us. It was like the song just wrote itself right in front of our eyes. We love when that happens…”the magic moment”.
Heartbreak
We strongly believe in speaking our truth. Once we had the overall concept of “NMT” it was easy to write lyrics. Who hasn’t been hurt by someone you’ve loved at some point. Flashbacks of heated arguments, tears of pain, and the feeling of abandonment reek throughout the song.
Contemporary Art
Music and art go hand and hand. Whenever we write music we start thinking of visuals we want to portray that accompany the vibe. When we think of contemporary art we think of excellence, and the freedom from restraints. That’s what we want our music to be: pure excellence and boundless.
Bobby Womack
We loved the way Bobby Womack told stories and that’s what we wanted to do with “NMT”. We wanted to write a song that didn’t portray the stereotype of the modern man as a misogynistic womanizer who feels no emotion. We wanted to show that men can be the loving, faithful, and can be the caring one in a relationship but in the end still be burned by love.
Summer Flings
The lyrics speak of leaving one relationship and embarking on into a new one. That refreshed feeling of starting a new chapter and the knowing that your last partner has growing pains that you’ve moved on. Its ironic how some people are not happy with their partner until that someone is happy with someone else and has moved on in their life.
