Los Angeles based duo FRENSHIP, comprised of James Sunderland and Brett Hite, met while working at Lululemon and instantly formed a bond. With music that sounds of the 1980’s mixed with island vibes, they’re constantly looking to push the boundaries of what beauty sounds like in music today. Here are a few of the things that inspire them.

The Color Blue: Blue is very versatile and can embody a variety of emotions, which our music tends to do as well. You can have blue skies and you can feel blue–it can be happy and sad. A lot of our music is about something serious/sad yet it feels uplifting musically. Our music sits in that middle ground like the color blue.
Coffee and Whiskey: It keeps us up and brings us down!
The people around us: We write a lot about everyday moments and the people who make up those moments. Past and current relationships, our families and friends are just a few we pull from.
The outdoors and the mountains: We both come from outdoorsy places (Colorado and Washington State) and the mountains from our homes pop into our heads while writing. Mountains make one feel small and put things in perspective, which is something we hope our music does.
Improvement and Growth: We get excited at the idea of improving with every song we write. So finishing the EP and moving on to the album was a big motivator for us. With every body of work we finish we hopefully move on to another level of growth as artists. We’re constantly pushing each other to exceed and that ultimately helps us grow together.
