“Once I didn´t take my camera and I missed out on a great picture, so now I try to take it with me at any time.” 5 minutes with Olivier Laselle

You feel the passion in every single image of Olivier Laselle´s work. Living in a gipsy place next to the ocean the French photographer has been behind the camera for 10 years already and captures his friends, sometimes nude, and everything that evokes a feeling.

How did you get involved in photography

I do not remember how it started. It could have been connected to the force to watch movies or to look at magazines. In any case I have been doing this for 10 years now and I struggle to live without it.

What do you want to capture in your work

I want to capture simple moments without artifice, capture a picture of people that I like and try to go to places that inspire me. For now I live in a caravan next to the sea and it’s really nice to enjoy everything I have around me to be able to take nice photos.

The essence of a perfect image

Oh, if I knew this sort of perfection that would be great.  But I think that beautiful light and a nice shared moment necessarily creates also a beautiful picture.

Which camera do you use

Sometimes a Canon analog ftb and sometimes a 5dII Canon. I prefer to shoot with a fixed lens, the 35mm is my favourite.

And do you take your camera everywhere you go

Always! Even when I go shopping. You never know what scene you are passing by. Once I did not take it and I missed out on a great picture, so now I try to take it with me at any time.

Hello from my planet! I love nature, freedom, dancing, traveling, music, reading, chilling, cats and the woods. What makes me happy is healthy food, a good night out, long walks in the forest and getting lost in the sound of nature.

What an intimate look into the life of a dedicated artist; living in a caravan by the sea sounds like the perfect backdrop for capturing those “simple moments without artifice.” It is so relatable that a single missed shot was all it took to make sure that camera never leaves his side again! verve credit card payment
