“A life that is lived and shared to the fullest potential makes a meaningful life. Everyone’s life is meaningful in some respect. It is a question that is subjective to the individual.”
“I met up with Jessica one night and after the beers starting flowing we just played around in some outfits she had and kept things fun and casual. The camera and I instantly fell in love with her vibrant peach coloured hair and matching brows.” tell tales photographer Jakub Taylor about the shooting day with model Jessica of Vauhaus Agency. And so did we.
What do you like about yourself?
The fact that I can say I am truly confident with 100% of my body. I hasn’t been always that way, but at 20 years old, I am happy with what I have and wouldn’t change anything. I particularly enjoy being a natural red head. My friends would definitely describe myself as a ‘firey red head!’ It’s gotten me into a few mishaps over the years but they all make great stories, and I am harnessing it now.
Your generation is all about?
Innovation, pushing the boundaries and forward thinking.
Which person has influenced you the most?
I have to say people, my mother and grandmother. Some may say my grandmother was a rebel in her time. She met my grandfather in the 1950s, he was a migrant worker from Dominica. My family live in a small city in the North of England, and I can only imagine that back then it was hard for them both. Despite knowing the stigma she would face during the era she fell in love, they married and had three children together. Unfortunately, my Grandfather passed away in a tragic car accident when my mother was a few weeks old. Despite this she still managed to bring up three children on her own. Even now, she has wonderful stories to tell.
I have to include my mother too. She has been an absolute warrior my whole life. I have been in and out of hospital from being very young and she has always been there holding my hand every step of the way. Throughout her own struggles with breast cancer 8 years ago, she has held it together so beautifully. It always reminds me that no matter what happens, you can still have that strength and fight. They are the two most amazing women in my life, and I love them very much.
What makes a meaningful life?
A life that is lived and shared to the fullest potential. Everyone’s life is meaningful in some respect. It is a question that is subjective to the individual. Personally, I would love to leave my mark somewhere in the world, I’m not quite sure in which way yet.
What is that one thing you want to change in your life?
Overcoming depression would be an absolute dream but for now I am managing it and it is making me a stronger person. Everything does happen for a reason.
Where do you want to be in 5 years from now?
In June 2015 I got signed with VauHaus agency and at a 5’5″, I didn’t meet traditional height requirements. I thought it would be hard to get into the industry but Vauhaus gave me the opportunity to show what I had to offer. This year alone I have travelled the UK, been recognised by some of my favourite brands (such as Miss Guided, Disturbia and Lazy Oafs), been asked to walk in London Fashion Week and this month I’m off to Salon International. I want to keep on working hard for the next five years and represent petite and diverse models everywhere. No matter what your physical features are, you can be inspiring in this changing industry. I am excited to keep moving forward, growing as a professional and growing as a person.
