Tokyo based model Juli Noguchi loves interior design, funny and crazy people and walking around Omotesando. Photographed by photographer Jacob Hodgkinson.
What was the most challenging thing that happened this past year?
I think the challenge has started ever since I agreed that I’m responsible for everything that happens in my life. Paying attention to what wasn’t making me happy and cutting all of that out of my life was the best feeling ever. And now the challenge is to concentrate only on the things I want to happen in my life. Enough of negative thoughts and people.
What makes you feel good?
Being surrounded with people I love and who still make me laugh like crazy is the best remedy. And that exciting feeling you get when you leave the routine behind and travel to explore new things and expand your mind. Oh, and music!
Instagram is all about presenting the ideal version of yourself and showcasing “the always perfect life”. Why do you think so many people are addicted to this app?
Because it is like an open diary but with photos, where you see all the cool things that inspire you. And even though a lot of people say instagram is fake because you only see the perfect side, I think it is the same in the real life. In the end, you want to filter all the bad things that have happened and only think about the good memories. You don’t want to talk about sad memories to people, at least, I don’t want to… Only if I got a lesson from that, but that will still be shown as a beautiful thing.

Which is your favorite instagram account and why?
I got a few favourite ones. Oraclefox because I like every single photo she posts about fashion, art and design. One Kings Lane and Amber Interiors because I love and I’m obsessed with interior design and Le_triptyque because how is even possible to find all of those cool photos they post?
Favorite place to be in Tokyo?
I love walking around Omotesando, there’s a lot of organic restaurants and cafes in that area. But if you had asked me about my favourite place in Japan, I certainly would’ve have said Kyoto.
Best advice you’ve ever received?
That everything happens for a reason, so you have to be patient and wait for the lesson you’ll seek from that… And to be grateful!
Where do you see yourself in the future?
In a tropical place, please! haha I know that in a few years I want to get out of Tokyo but I’m not so sure if I want to move back to Brazil (I used to live there). The world is just so big, so many possibilities. I just know I will be working with what I love, interior design.
