How did you start modeling?
I used to do fashion design as I wanted to be a designer. Then a stylist asked me to walk in a fashion show. He thought I had a lot of potential and asked me to participate in Elite Model Look; I joined it and luckily won it. After that, I was around sixteen back then, I started flying everywhere forĀ modeling.
Where were you born?
I was born in Shandong, China. My grandma is a bit Austrian so my face isn’t totally Chinese. I moved to Hong Kong when I was young so I’m pretty much just a Hong Konger.
Where do you think your art interest came from?
Not sure, maybe it was because my mum showed me some fashion shows when I was young. SheĀ really supports me in whatever I want to do. When I went to Paris at the age of 17 she was worried but very supportive at the same time. Also when I was small I already started drawing dresses and dressed up Barbies. So it seems that I have always liked creative stuff.
Do you have siblings?
I have a younger brother but we don’t look alike at all. He has small eyes is also a bit shorter than me. He used to be really chubby but now he’s slimmer and more handsome. When we go outside people can’t tell we’re related they might think I’m his girlfriend. laughs.
Where did your height come from?
I think it’s from my dad but my mom is tall as well. My mom is 173cm and my dad is over 180cm.
“I would describe myself as pretty happy and always doing something funny. I really like to makeĀ people laugh.”
Did people tell you to be a model because you’re so tall?
I used to be bullied because I was so tall, thin and pretty dark. The uniform skirt was pretty long so they said I look like an umbrella. But they were just playing.
How would you describe yourself back then?
Pretty happy and always doing something funny. I really like to makeĀ people laugh.
Did you start doing social media or your agency?
Even now in Hong Kong there aren’t too many models focusing on their social media. I however like to follow the trend and clients sometimes preferĀ relatable models and no longer only the super tall and high fashion looking ones.
Is there a lot of pressure now to show how many followers you have?
Sometimes when I go to a casting, clients write down how many followers you have which can be strange at first.
What plans do you have coming up?
I am waiting for the right timing to continue with design. I had a crossover with a local brand called Bauhaus for a leather jacket and I felt it was pretty fun. Obviously if I made a whole collection it’s pretty hard but crossovers make me happy. Maybe in the future when I have more time I can have my own brand. With my social media and modeling I am already too busy right now.
