Tanerélle´s new album 11:11 is an absolute listening pleasure. It shows the incredible talent of the skilled beauty with the distinctive pure voice. Our absolute favorite is Clyde, whose depth will totally crawl under your skin. In our interview she talks about women, her new album and tricky moments.
Where are you from and where you are currently based?
I’m from Atlanta but I’m based in L.A.
“An unusual songbird who believes in dreams“ is how you describe yourself on your instagram. What dreams do you believe in?
I have a lot of dreams I believe in. A couple of them would have to be being able to impel positive change throughout the world with my art and contributing to world peace with my art.
What were the main inspirations for your new album?
Women, being a woman and being a black woman are always some of my main inspirations when it comes to writing. One of my goals is to make women everywhere fully embrace their power, their sexuality, their resilience, their strength and to be unapologetic while doing so. Love was also a huge inspiration for the album. I wanted to express my take on unconditional, unwavering love so anyone familiar with that yummy feeling could have something to vibe to.
What is the meaning of the title 11:11?
My entire life 11:11 has always been a number that pops up everywhere, whether its on a license plate, a clock, or even if I pause a show and come back, sometimes, somehow it’s randomly paused at 11:11. During the entire creation of the album it started popping up more than usual, and I’m a huge believer in synchronicity, so it just kind of felt right that I should name the album 11:11.
“One of my goals is to make women everywhere fully embrace their power, their sexuality, their resilience, their strength and to be unapologetic while doing so.”
The most personal song on the album?
Ripe is for sure the most personal song on the album. It’s about that yummy love I mentioned earlier.
One of your favourite quotes out of one song lyrics of the album…
I’m just gonna put imaginary quotation marks around all of Dalí because that’s one of my favorite songs on the album.
Who did you produce it together with?
Neon Phoenix is the producer and executive producer of 11:11. He’s seriously one of the most talented, grounded people I’ve ever met.
Have there been many tricky moments while creating the album – moments of self-doubt, pressure or such things or you work pretty confident throughout when you create a new piece of music?
I’m usually pretty confident when I’m creating, but there are always moments of self doubt where you’re like “is this good enough, is this my best, am I doing my best?” or deadlines approaching way too fast. I had a huge support system during the whole process though so that made it a lot easier for me.
Besides holding in hand a fabulous new album, what else valuable you gained from the process of creating it?
I definitely grew in the patience department. You create all this art and you want people to hear it right away, you wanna show people what you’ve made but you have to wait. Things get hectic at times, things fall apart, but honestly during this process, patience was what made everything piece right back together.
Any upcoming live dates?
I currently have no upcoming live dates.
