Get to know UK based DJ and producer MK whose music brings you back the good times. We talked about his creative process, future plans and CRSSD Festival.
Who is MK?
That’s an intense question & it is the first time anyone has asked me that. If I answer in the third person, I guess MK is a guy who loves music and loves to produce, play live, make music, mix and remix music, loves great vocalists, loves being with his friends and family and is always up for some good fun.
Musical Start & Inspirations?
I started around 14 or 15 and i had a band, we were heavily inspired by Ministry, NIN, The Cure, New Order, and most of all Depeche Mode. After I realized how hard it was to keep a band together especially when you make no money, I figured producing would be my thing so I could make music all day long.
Talk a little about your creative process
I wish I could tell you there is one way, but it just does not work out that way. Sometimes I work with a vocal or topline, sometimes I create the track first and then record vocals, sometimes I remix and strip every piece away until there is one sound or one vocal and start from there. Then sometimes it’s a collaboration, which is completely unpredictable at times.

What’re you listening to at the moment?
When I am not in the studio — Sza, Solardo, Camelphat, Phantogram, Chvrches, The XX, Arcade Fire, Petit Biscuit, Matthew Dear, Depeche Mode, Prince. I try to listen to as much as I can and then there are times that I don’t listen at all, and just think about what is in my head.
Whats next for you?
I am finishing remixes for Sam Smith, Claptone and Armand Van Helden and then in about two weeks, I am playing at CRSSD and after that I go back to finishing my next single and then onto Miami Music Week where I have my Area 10 show with Camelphat, Solardo, Latmun, Carabetta & Doons, Will Clarke and a couple of very special secret guests.
So you’re coming out to San Diego in March for CRSSD…
Yup, really looking forward to coming back down for it. I had so much fun the last time.
What are you looking forward to most about CRSSD Festival?
Playing on the waterfront was awesome and the vibe is so good. And I also get to see all my other DJ producer friends.
Which three artists on the lineup would you recommend to your fans to watch?
Tiga, Shiba San, Gorgon City and Nora En Pure for sure (I know that’s 4 but what could I do)
What are three essential items you wouldn’t go to any show without (excluding your USB of course)?
Extra socks, headphones, fresh t-shirt and ride home.
