Any artist’s dream would be to play an outdoor show to 15,000 screaming fans in their hometown on a warm Saturday night.
Few will ever get to do it. In fact, effectively no one ever gets to do it. That being said, The Glorious Sons did just that in their hometown Kingston, Ontario a few weeks ago, and it was electric. Saturday, September 21st at Richardson Memorial Stadium, it was unseasonably warm around 8:30 PM when the band took the stage to promote their brand new album, A War On Everything. A near capacity crowd packed the stadium for what the band was titling “Our Little Piece of Work,” a two-and-a-half hour, twenty-eight song performance, in honor of their hometown.
Contrary to the United States, where the only arena rock bands are hits of yesteryear continuing to laugh their way to the bank, or bands that aren’t even rock at all anymore, in Canada people care about rock music. Young people care about rock music. The crowd was not only passionate, but dedicated, remaining captivated for the entire show. On top of everything already mentioned, that’s what made this show such a sight to behold. This little rock band that could, from a town most North Americans have never even heard of, has become a juggernaut, and as of lately they’ve been kicking the door down south of the border as well.
Before the show, I was able to slip into the band’s daily routine backstage and document some of their night before taking the stage exclusively for C-Heads. Here are some of my favorite moments from the evening.
