“Back in July, I left the city to visit my family in my hometown.
Every time I return I try and make time to visit this one spot I have been frequenting since before I picked up a camera.
It’s about a two-mile hike into the woods to a private reservoir which makes this place pretty ideal for some peace and quiet.
Any time I ever need to clear my mind from the noise of the city this is the first place I go to.
Amanda is someone I have been working with over the past few years and has somewhat become a muse. I think after the handful of shoots we’ve done together we are finally understanding what the other person envisions which makes shooting together that much easier.
On top of that Amanda does her own hair, makeup, styling, (there isn’t much she can’t do) which allows me to solely focus on the photography and story side of things.
It’s also created a space where we are not afraid to throw out our most ridiculous ideas like hiking 4 miles in the dead heat of the July sun to take one photo.
I have to say I may have made lied a little about how long the walkout there was but I’d say now it was worth it.
I guess for me this series hits close to home because it involves aspects of the familiar.
My favorite place, a friend who I often photograph, and most importantly my love for walking.
Like a wrench, my camera is only the tool by which I document those familiar places and practices.
That’s all this shoot was.
Practice.”
