Brazilian Model Milena Scheller looks just gorgeous in this glass enclosed villa surrounded by the beauty of the sea and photographed by Lorenzo Botero. We had a quick chat with the talented Colombian photographer about his influences, favorite moments and what makes a good image.
Lorenzo, what was your first touch point with photography?
I’ve always been interested in architecture, design, and aesthetics, but I was given my first camera about 8 years ago when a friend was looking to repay me for some concert tickets but didn’t have the cash on hand so a used Nikon that was collecting dust felt like an adequate exchange.
Tell me about the location…
This set was shot in the south of Brazil, on a private beach off the island of Floripa, I had been traveling throughout Brazil at the time and decided to book a last minute flight down to the island to meet some friends from Miami. It was shot on a cloudy morning in a glass enclosed villa before heading to explore the sand dunes for another shoot that ended up being published in Playboy.
“The best moments in photography are embarking on new trips to unknown destinations, wondering where your camera will take you and who you will meet as a result of spontaneous decisions.”
What are your influences?
I’ve always been trying to capture the scene of life and leisure, in my case, that is feminine beauty and isolated landscapes. I aim to travel the world, searching for interesting and beautiful people to photograph.
I was influenced early on by Helmut Newton and women themselves that provide an indispensable inspiration.
A good image has to…?
A good image has to convey emotion, have aesthetic appeal, or inspire someone to visit a certain destination. The best type of women to photograph are the ones with great personal style and an abundance of confidence.
Your best moments in Photography?
The best moments in photography are embarking on new trips to unknown destinations, wondering where your camera will take you and who you will meet as a result of spontaneous decisions. Its rare that I have enough time to do everything I want to do in a specific place and it usually ends up in late nights and early mornings with minimal rest but I always push to hit the streets and take advantage of the city while the light is out. I can’t be in a studio, I don’t want a girlfriend. I just want to continue creating my art and discovering which subjects will create the next story.
