“Julia is the most energetic and funny person I know.” tells us Ryan and Julia answers in return: “Ryan is wild. He is an actual genius.” Out of each of their words you can feel the strong bond and creative energy between them. The Orgeon brother and sister have just released their first single Change You out of their debut EP. A light-hearted, youthful track that like the rest of the EP deals with teenage experience. We had a chat with the Indie-pop duo Chasing Daze about the best thing about working with your sibling, the most difficult thing about being young and their future goals.

How did you start making music?
Ryan: I started producing when I was a sophomore in high school and did my own thing for a while. One night at like 3 a.m. the whole idea of Chasing Daze came to my mind and I sent Julia a text explaining the whole idea. We were both stoked and we started making our first track the next day.
Julia: Ryan really got me into the whole music production scene. The very first time I laid vocals on a track for Ryan my whole perspective on music and music production changed. From that point on, my dream was to make a career out of it.
How would you describe each other?
R: Julia is the most energetic and funny person I know. You’ll never find her chilling at home watching Netflix. She’s always on the go and is always wanting to work. Me and her are very similar and we’re super close.
J: Ryan is wild. He is an actual genius. Our energies really compliment each other in the studio. He is very focused and driven. Ryan brings the logical side to our music and I bring the crazy, creative side. At the end of the day, Ryan is my number one and my best friend.
The best thing and the worst thing about working creatively with your sibling?
R: There’s so many advantages in making music with a sibling. The best thing is that we know everything about each other. I can always tell exactly what she’s feeling or thinking and it just makes working together so much easier and simpler. The worst thing is that we can butt heads and be harsh critics of each other, but it really just helps us refine our ideas and the music.
J: The best part about working with my sibling is I can be 100% myself in the studio. Also, sharing this journey with someone who has been by your side since day 1 is incredibly special and truly beautiful. The worst part is that criticism can be way harder to receive when it’s from your sibling.

What were the main inspirations for the music on your debut EP?
R: Our main inspirations came from acts like Clairo, LANY, and Still Woozy. It’s hard to narrow it down though because we draw inspiration from so many different bands and artists.
J: Some of the biggest inspirations for me were artists like Clairo and LANY. These artists inspired me the most because of their authenticity.
Most personal or favorite track on the album and why?
R: My favorite track on the album has gotta be “Change You”. We had so much fun writing this track and I loved making all the guitar parts for this song. Ill never forget how stoked we were when putting this track together.
J: My favorite track on the ep is Teenager. I like this one the most because it follows a weird story line that reflects the confusion of being a dumb teenager. This one was also the most complex to write and record because we were trying to capture personal experiences while also creating one main story line.
“The most difficult part about being young is figuring everything out. Life isn’t easy and there’s so many things to learn.”
What do you love most about being young?
R: When you’re young, the sky is really the limit. I love the freedom. I can be whatever I want to be and I can do whatever I want to do. It’s such a cool feeling and it inspires me to chase after my dreams.
J: I love the fact that I can be whoever I want and create whatever I want. I also love the freedom that I have. I’m not tied down to anything or anyone. There are virtually no limitations.
And what is the most difficult thing about it?
R: The most difficult part is figuring everything out. Life isn’t easy and there’s so many things to learn. Being young and trying to make it in the music industry is hard, but the challenge is what keeps me motivated.
J: The hardest thing about being young is being so misunderstood. Older people don’t really understand teenagers and that’s one of the reasons we wrote a whole EP about the teenage experience.
“When you’re young, the sky is really the limit.”
Your goals for the next years?
R: I want to continue making music that we love and start building a fan base that loves it too. Playing live and going on tour has always been one of our biggest dreams so I would love to make that happen.
J: My biggest goal is to keep creating art and hopefully make a career out of it. I also want to graduate high school, that would be cool.
Where can we usually find you on a Friday night?
R: I’m really a homebody and I love to work as much as I can. Even during high school, I would spend most of my time in my room working on music. My ideal Friday night is making a coffee and chilling in my room, either working on or listening to music.
J: Normally, I´m hanging out with my people or working with Ryan on music. Me and Ryan also like to just chill together and listen to music we love.
