Covers are fun.
Ask any artist, and they’ll tell you. Original music is obviously the ultimate form of an artist’s expression, however, sometimes a cover can mean equally as much. Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Hook must agree. After just recently inking a deal with the famed Ultra Records, and releasing the dance pop gem “I Don’t Wanna Dance”, he’s back today with – you guessed it, a cover. But it shouldn’t be confused as not being his own. It comes in the form of a haunting makeover of the legendary Daft Punk x Julian Casablancas record, “Instant Crush”. It’s not completely unlike the original, it’s arranged and sang the same way, but stripped back in a way that showcases its songwriting. It’s a fun new take on an old favorite, and C-Heads has it for you below:

“I’ve always been a fan of Daft Punk. Julian Casablancas’ voice on Instant Crush sits in a register that was fitting to my voice and I thought it’d be fun to mess around with an acoustic version. It turned into the cover that I recored and produced in my living room. I’m excited that I was given Daft Punk’s blessing to release this. I hope my fans will enjoy it.”
