A stunnning, cinematic mood characterizes the latest shooting of photographer Jean Amb and model Sandra Rubio. The viewer finds himself in dreamlike sequences following Sandra around through homey rooms until the open ocean where the water sparkles like diamonds.
“Before partaking in our journey Sandra and I were up until four in the morning. We intended to get to know each other, discover each others thoughts, feelings, limits, and everything. Our flight would leave at six in the morning so we barely slept a few hours.
After leaving the plane we both immediately felt this presence, this sense of self. We became victims to the energetic field of this island. Ibiza.
I only had one film roll in my pocket so I didn´t want to shoot pictures until I felt the purity of the story I wanted to tell. Therefore during the first day we sunbathed, explored the island and ate at the older local restaurants.
I chose a lodging on the western part of the island with the same orientation, about five minutes away from a small cove. So when the sunset started we could contemplate it from one of the best locations on the island, hiding behind the noble Es Vedrá. And that is where our physical and mental space disappeared.
That night, when the sky left behind the blue to be painted with silence, when the last ray of spacial light traversed the cosmos and touched the last branch, that night, before going to sleep, I took my camera and went to the bedroom, Sandra was there, almost asleep. It was January but she was completely nude like one of those ancient Greek sculpture, so soft, so polished. The heat was suffocating, something must have been heating that room, maybe the encounter that happened that night between Saturn and Pluto at 22 degrees from the Capricorn sign. I raised my camera above my eyes and felt the gears align to project all the energy current through my still virgin celluloid.
That was the first photograph, after that, as if in a trance the rest of the roll flew by. This here is the story.”
