If you are as obsessed with unique and handmade clothing as we are, we found something really special for you. For that, let’s turn the spotlight on vintage-inspired brand Mundane.
Launching their very first collection, Mundane focuses on a limited and handmade curated collection of unique designers from all over the world. “Mundane is a brand looking to inspire others to live a life out of the ordinary. Untamed and unfiltered.” We sat down with founder Luca Di Fabio, a 29-year-old Italian musician and artist, to talk about his vision for the brand, what makes Mundane sustainable and his favorite style icons.

Uniqueness is very important to you. How do you walk the line between being unique and having commercial appeal?
Luca: As long as something is truly authentic, it will have commercial appeal. You can make a garment less eccentric and more “average” in order to satisfy a larger number of customers, but they will most likely forget about it until they find a new one. But if you make something so unique and authentic and take a little risk, you’ll end up with a smaller yet more loyal customer base which is gonna get in line for your next product. It can only get bigger from there!
What would you say are the key things that make your brand sustainable?
Luca: Our handmade process and quality of the fabrics we use. Each piece in our catalogue is made by hand from high quality fabrics carefully outsourced by our designers. Each collection is made based on the amount of fabric at our disposal and scraps are used for patchwork and embellishments so nothing gets wasted. Specifically, our denim collection consists of rare and vintage pieces collected over the years and reworked by hand to give them a new life. We call it “New Vintage”.

What are your personal favourite design details and fabrications in this debut collection?
Lcua: Such a tough question! I simply can’t get over how amazing our leather pieces are as well as the denim and jogger pants.
How important is community and building that network of like-minded individuals?
Luca: Quite crucial. That’s the main reason we built our content house (Mundane Magazine). We wanted a creative outlet that could highlight the most provocative and unique artists and creatives in the artistic community in Nashville and beyond. We want to provide our customers not only with how unique our pieces are but also how unique people would wear them, while highlighting their story and work.

Where do you look for creative inspiration?
Luca: I look around at those who I admire and who are further than me in their career and studies and get inspired by their work in order to make mine more relevant.
Favorite style icons?
Luca: Johnny Depp, Miles Davis and Gucci Mane.
What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?
Luca: My dad always tell me “It doesn’t matter how many mistakes you make, as long as you learn how to be happy with them and laugh at yourself later.”
