Cologne based producer, singer and composer Simon Ebener-Holscher alias Moglii inspires us with his new track ‘Harbour’ featuring talented Iranian-German songstress Madanii. Filled with a lot of field recordings it creates this inner picture of splashing waves, wideness and a safe harbour. In times like this a heart-warming sound, that gets under your skin.
Moglii tells: “Harbour is about a fictional place of calmness, peace and home. It describes an inner state we wanna reach; to feel secure and protected in a wild and chaotic world. So the Harbour is the symbol for that inner place we wanted to outline – you can think of it and feel renewed. At the same time it shows a great wunderlust, “at the ocean-side, I’ll be ok”. In a time of ‘lockdowns’ in consequence of a global pandemic, our longing for seeing wide landscapes and breaking out of the hamster wheel raises from day to day “stuck in loops, stuck in loops, stuck in loops”. You no longer recognise yourself. I tried to illustrate that peaceful “glitter on the water”-picture with a stumbling low-fi beat plus a special sound design. You’ll find a lot of field recordings into that soundscapes – like gulls, ship horns and splashing waves. As the daugther of Irianian refugees, Berlin-based Madanii explores feelings of otherness in her lyrics. Her soulful vocals just expresses my feelings perfectly.”
