Dutch DJ and producer Fedde Le Grand has been on our favorite-dj-list for over a decade and so we are really excited that we had a chat with the talented artist about his new fan music video for “In Love With You”, strange times and what makes him happy besides music.
You have been in the music business for a very long time. What has been the biggest changes over the years? And do you sometimes feel nostalgic about the old days?
The biggest change over the past few years has been the over-expansion of the dance music industry overall, and with that, the commercialization of the industry for good and for bad. I think there are big advantages to this, but also some creative restrictions come with it. I don’t feel nostalgic, I believe every opportunity comes in its own way, so I always like to embrace what’s in for me and enjoy it to the fullest.
2020/21 has been a very difficult time for everything to do with art, music and culture. How hard is it for you these days and what gives you hope for better days ahead?
I try to always see possibilities in every situation. These strange times have given me more time to be in the studio, and have also made me go into a pop/Spotify direction, which I absolutely love and enjoy. It also gave me time to experiment with certain things. If I look at history, every generation has its own challenges but has always overcome them, so I’m 100 percent sure we will overcome this as well.
Which three songs have given you a lot of strength?
Zaz – Je veux
Boris Dlugosch – Keep Pushing
Jamiroquai – Canned Heat
The music video “In Love With You” is a big love letter to your fans. What is a special moment that you experienced in the past years on tour and one you will never forget?
I met this girl that told me that she has such wonderful memories about ‘PYHUFD‘, that every time she has to undergo chemotherapy she has that song on her headphones to bring her back to the great feeling of happiness, so the song gave her strength to deal with her hardship. Her story is one that has stuck with me forever.
In what mood and place do you need to be in order to be able to be the most creative for writing and producing songs?
It could be any place, the most important thing is that my head is clear so my mind has the time to wander freely and get the ideas and inspiration that come pouring in my head.
“These strange times have given me more time to be in the studio and it also gave me time to experiment with certain things.”
I just have to say, your remix with 22Bullets “Bang Bang” is one of the best remixes for the song I’ve ever heard. How did the collaboration and the idea come about?
22 bullets contacted me with the idea, and to be honest at first I was reluctant because the song has been already done a few times, but as soon as I heard the new vocals I was sold and starting working right away. After a little back and forth we came out with the final results.
In a 2017 interview you said that if you were to emigrate somewhere, it would be Los Angeles. Is it still like that?
Yes for sure, I could still live there. Although, my girlfriend is from Miami so most likely I will move there.
Are you an introverted or extroverted person?
I am definitely an introverted person, I’d rather stay quiet and let my work do the talking.
Besides music, what makes you happy?
Food, chocolate, sports, and nature.
