For this series, two artists have teamed up to capture their deep love for people, connection and joy. Starring Denisa photographed by Roxana Neacsu.
Roxana Neacsu is a 26-year young photographer based in Bucharest, Romania. She graduated from The Faculty of Journalism and gained a master degree in Multimedia Production and Audio-Visual. She is addicted to photography, to people’s faces & bodies and she enjoys playing with natural light which can create so many beautiful shadows. In joy, she loves watching movies; in sorrow, she loves writing poems.
Roxana met Denisa, a professional ballet dancer who became a ballet teacher at the age of just 17 and together they wanted to create a visual story about ballet, femininity, grace and intimacy using Denisa`s abilities captured through Roxana`s lens. This is what happens when two artists meet. They create magic.
This is Denisa`s story on her passion, told by herself:
„At the age of 3 I started doing gymnastics. I liked it, nothing to say, I was just a baby frolicking on the mattress, on the beam and so on. The older I got, the harder things got. 6-8 hours of daily rehearsals, in addition to school. On some rehearsal days we warmed up with decent classical dance studies. That’s where all my passion for ballet began.
I reached the age of 10 when I said no to gymnastics and stopped it and instead enrolled at the High School of Arts in Constanța at the choreography department. At the age of 13 I decided to apply for the famous John Cranko Ballet School in Germany, Stuttgart. One day I received an email from them, a greeting card for my admission to school. I cried with joy when I saw it. At the age of 14 I started ballet classes there, I can’t tell you how much I felt when I entered the academy; happiness, enthusiasm, fear. Happiness all over my face when I entered the Academy and saw how beautiful people can be, the enthusiasm for the classes I was going to take and what I was going to learn and the fear when I noticed some of the best dancers from all over the world, I was afraid of failing. I had a great year, but unfortunately I had to return to Romania because I couldn’t afford to finish my courses in Stuttgart.
The following years I finished them at the choreography high school in Bucharest. I also met many wonderful choreographers here, whom I want to thank for all the effort. 19 years of art I don’t regret.”
