Berlin based band Pair drops their new single “Freak Talk” out of their upcoming debut album “The Love Equivalent” which will be out June 17th.
The band – composed of lead vocalist and guitarist Pete Fosca Jr., bassist Elias Weber, keyboarder Samuel Gestrich and drummer Max Jännerwein – have always tried to break boundaries with their genre-defying rock electro style. And also their new release “Freak Talk” is embellished with alternative synths, minimal layers of harmonies, and rocking vocals, a delightful balance between playful and heavy tones.
The basic idea behind the song was much older and had already been in the Berlin band’s demo archive for a while. And it was about time that this piece saw the light of day. “The melody came at a jam with my loop station, an old organ and a Dr. Rhythm. I mixed typical pop grooves with alternative sounds and experimented a bit. But the song disappeared in the drawer at some point.” says singer Pete Fosca Jr. “Then when we started working on our debut album a few years later and I happened to find the recording again.”
“I wanted a pop-type theme with a schizophrenic twist. The jam at the time was just perfect for that! Then in a second session, the lyrics came quickly. You freak me out when you do or you don’t call / you freak me out when you’re in or out of my head. The Love Equivalent emerged from the confrontation of self and self-image. Something that is also strongly reflected in Freak Talk. In this, each track is like a new facet that slowly emerges to the surface through this confrontation until it is sure of its own freedom.”
