In life there are many hard-hitting experiences. They are the small ones that are only quietly noticeable at first, and the big ones that crash into your life like an unintended knock, often upending your entire life and leaving chaos and emptiness in their wake.
They say when a relationship ends, it’s almost as if someone has died. That’s what it feels like. Daniella Binyamin‘s debut song “Grand Hotel” also has its seed in the end of her relationship. “It all started with a break down last summer. I fled the city and locked myself in a house in the countryside, and did what I’ve always done whenever there’s chaos in my mind and heart: I sat down by the piano and played and sang stuff. First there was this piano riff I just couldn’t stop playing since I found it so catchy and then the melodies and words just came to me.”
The past couple of years, Daniella’s been writing songs and working with artists like Lukas Graham, Zara Larsson and Hugo Helmig. Wonderful experiences, and yet the day has come for her to release her own music. “I’ve waited for 10 years to release my own music and I can’t really describe how happy and overwhelmed I am that it’s actually happening now.” She continues about the song: “I wanted to capture the feelings I felt while writing it when me and Oskar Nyman did the production, and all the elements needed to feel right. I like that there’s both power and fragility there, since that’s exactly how I felt when writing it. That there’s rawness and energy in the drums and playful choirs alongside with the more soft and delicate rhodes-elements and synths.”
And so “Grand Hotel” has become a brisk pop song that sounds hopeful, almost euphoric. The seed has become a flower, the chaos a new strength and the silence of the country house in the forest turned into a wonderful debut.
