If the world needs anything more, it is love, empathy and healing. And by that I don’t mean these hollow, superficial phrases from politicians that chase us through media to steer us all in the “right” direction. I’m talking about those deep honest feelings where sometimes it’s okay to take yourself a step back so that the eternal me can turn into a we.
The music of London musician and producer Meelo makes me feel that way. And when I dive into Meelo’s story, I think that this is exactly what he wants to give us with his music. He used to play as a session player and music therapist when one day the front wheel of his bike blocked and he broke his arm. Unable to play with it he was forced to reflect and started writing and composing songs. So sometimes something beautiful can come out of something fateful.
Together with Goya Gumbani from Brooklyn he returns with the single ‘Bossa’ out of his upcoming debut EP “Movement 1” which will be released in April. A gentle, delicate song that frees the heart like a wonderful unforgetable summer journey.
Meelo tells: “In my travels making ends meet as a session musician, I was fortunate enough to meet, collaborate and share ideas with a multitude of master artists. One particularly special connection was with rising star Goya Gumbani (I was often used as the bassist in Goya’s live shows). We both experienced a meeting of minds, touching on the similarities between our musical journeys, on the personal growth each had experienced, I knew immediately we had to collaborate. After hours of conversation the resultant music is a gentle, contemplative elegy, a moment of reflection of where both of us have been and where we’re going. It sounds like poetry set to a sad samba, but dark and dank and heavy. Best let Goya’s lyrics speak…”
