The Degrees are a Bristol multi-genre duo, consisting of Isha Campbell and Charlie Bierman. Inspired by their heritage, the pair strongly influenced by classic soul, acid jazz and the trip-hop sound of their UK hometown. With their latest relase ‘No Escape’ they give us a glimpse of their upcoming debut album The Day Out of Time. And it is a lushly wonderful forerunner. The track feels incredibly cinematic and soulful and Isha’s soft vocals really shine through in this tune.
Isha explains: “No Escape is really about feeling trapped and being manipulated into believing like there is no need for escape… The tone of the track is moody, it’s cinematic and pensive. The choice of groove and use of dramatic strings enhances the atmospheric undertone of discontent and discord throughout the song and we wanted to draw from some of our influences to make a really epic record that reflected the mood of ‘captivity’ – in all its forms…”
Together with Fallen Tree 1Hundred, they will soon present a music video for the single, directed by filmmaker Greg Francis and shot by cinematographer Chaz Appeti. Watch out!
