Some things can turn into a disadvantage what at first seems to be an advantage and vice versa. Berlin-based singer and songwriter Elisabeth Renner aka benzii has obviously benefited from growing up in an environment where her parents work for a major label and also founded an independent label themselves. These are precious impressions that she has absorbed all over the years and in the end inspired her to create something completely her own.
The best way to describe her work would be as genuine, self-referential and raw. So is her latest release “Uncertain Cold”, which might take a moment but takes us on a wild, experimental electronic journey, paired with her captivating vocals. A bit of chaos, a bit of confusion, and a bit of uncertainty also oozes from the sounds, and I guess that’s what it’s all about. “„Uncertain Cold“ comprises for me an interpersonal conflict between vulnerability and rationality. It feels like a fight for survival with two different approaches: Being rational and meditated or irrational and emotional. Hence why, this idea of a hunter-pray dynamic between two sides of myself, came very naturally into our minds.””
In the black & white video, directed by Katharina Sušec, we follow the young artist in search of herself. “Should I tell you how I really feel? Should I jump Or should I keep still? Should I speak my mind, ignore my fears?”
