Mounika.‘s latest release ‘I Looked into Her Eyes’ featuring Ural Thomas & The Pain is an artful combination of musical, visual and cinematic elements. “‘I Looked Into Her Eyes’ was a real crush when I heard the original song ‘Smouldering Fire’ by Ural Thomas & the Pain, in the Netflix comedy series, ‘It’s Bruno’. I immediately wanted to rework the track.” he tells. “It’s a great sample and I wish everyone to discover this amazing artist, Ural Thomas. He has an incredible voice.”
The multi-genre song is an enchanting and effortless blend of sound, and the accompanying video, directed by Parisian filmmaker Louis Faury, seduces the viewer with it’s beautiful, innocent love story. “We wanted the clip to illustrate the tenderness and the moments that arise from that first innocent glance. It’s time to let yourself be carried away by this first stage, which seems to explore love encounters, and the destinies that collide in a simple game of looks.”
As an avid comic and graphic novel fan, Mounika. collaborated with Berlin artist Joe Taylor, who created an intriguing visual narrative by introducing two characters, Carl and TJ, throughout the album. He explains:“There is a real will to add drawings to the project. To offer people a little more than just music, by offering them visual stories”, he says. “Carl & TJ were born. It’s a bit like a Calvin & Hobbs, music version or a more electronic ‘Lord Quas’ from Quasimoto. The project took a long time to finalise, it has the image of a kind of diary. The artwork for the singles are represented in dedicated comic strips, Carl & TJ form an inseparable duo that navigate the imaginary world of ‘Don’t Look At Me’ music and the real world, and that the public will soon see evolve in different forms. Keep your eyes open, they might be around here somewhere.”
