In the fluid world of music, authenticity carries a charm of its own. This charm becomes palpable in the new collaboration between Grammy-nominated producer Wuki and acclaimed DJ and producer, Lee Foss. A delightful culmination of their shared passion for music, their debut single ‘To Be Real’ carries the vivacity of a lively party and the nostalgia of a cherished melody.
While the artists never fail to bring a sense of fun behind the deck, there’s a level of earnestness in their work. Their clever production and crisp beats all stem from an aim to not just create music, but to craft an experience that leaves a mark.
‘To Be Real’ is their vibrant reinterpretation of Cheryl Lynn’s iconic 1978 anthem, ‘Got To Be Real’. The track, released via LA-based imprint Thrive Music, captures the recognizable horn riff of the original. It swiftly evolves into a tech-house powerhouse, where frenzied percussion and rolling basslines carry Cheryl Lynn’s chopped up vocals into an exhilarating realm of sound.
“There’s never been a better time To Be Real than right now….”
Reflecting on the project, Wuki shared, “I’ve been sampling and flipping a lot of disco records lately, and ‘To Be Real’ has to be one of my favorite disco tracks of all time. I heard it one day and realized how perfect those horns would be for a pre-drop, so I whipped up an initial idea and asked my boy Lee Foss to jump on and bring it over the finish line.”
Lee Foss added, “There’s never been a better time To Be Real than right now. At the moment we live in a world with very little objective truth, and that is a crying shame. This song is a celebration of that feeling…of being real and getting down on a dance floor outside of time.”
Indeed, in ‘To Be Real’, they have bridged the gap between nostalgia and modernity. By merging their talents, they deliver a track that mirrors their love for music and commitment to authenticity.
