Hailing from the Nordic outpost of Iceland, Inki creates a brand of avant-pop that is difficult to qualitate. Haunting, interesting, and resolute, her sound possesses a sweeping dichotomy that feels appropriate for the plains or the club floor, an undeniably Scandinavian talent. The songwriter, whose real name is Ingibjörg Friðriks, is gearing up for the release of Thoughts Midsentence, a full-length album that sees Inki stepping outside of her comfort zone. Her most recent taste of it, “This One For Me,” exemplifies that perfectly. With its jolting kick drums, swelling synthesizers, and driving organs, its a soundscape that is reminiscent of dark pop experts like fellow Scandinavian Tove Lo, or a more off-kilter BANKS, but really runs in a lane of its own.

“My friend was going through a breakup, and I decided to uplift her spirits with a joyride. Unfortunately, my questionable music choices dampened the mood. That drive became the catalyst for ‘This One For Me'”
“When your best friends go through heartache, you ride that rollercoaster of emotion with them. So even though this wasn’t my breakup, this was a breakup I was a part of. When she felt numb, we drove around. When she felt betrayed, I felt angry. When she felt sad, I felt I should feed her (yes, food is my love language).”
