“Dreaming is a song I made at home after coming out of a bad fever. First, the groove and melody came, and then all the beautiful layers. It’s about being broken down and waiting for love, and about having suddenly found it.” Thus speaks Hilding, the Stockholm-born songwriter, as he introduces his latest single, “Dreaming.”
The tracks Hilding crafts in his Berlin bedroom studio weave together the classic rock essence of bands like INXS and the Replacements with the gloss of modern pop. Through his music, he invites listeners to traverse his journey from a small-town rube in Sweden to the vibrant streets of Berlin, a city that breathes life into his songs, as much a character as a backdrop.
“Dreaming” is the third self-released single, and the melancholy tinged with nostalgia in Hilding’s distinctive voice hints at the darker shades of Berlin. This bustling city, where the lights seldom dim and spirits lose themselves in the clamor of its inhabitants, imbues “Dreaming” with a peculiar melancholic charm. And it turned out to be a song of healing and anticipation. It’s about moving past hurt and opening up to love again, in the hope of an awaiting soulmate. After all, navigating through life’s challenges to find our destined partner is among the most profound experiences life has to offer.
