“Cami and I planned to have a cool afternoon of photoshoots. I traveled from my city to Mexico City to meet Cami. In an apartment in the heart of Polanco, we did the shooting. We listened to good music while we took photos. We finished, and I returned to my city happy with the results,” says Ram Sánchez about his newest series starring Cami Barbosa. Styling was done by Jenn Macías. We also wanted to know more about the gorgeous beauty and asked her a few questions!
Cami, what do you love most about yourself?
The fact that I came from a very poor place and am achieving my goals, even at a very young age, makes me feel a great sense of achievement.
In moments of self-doubt or critique, what personal mantras or thoughts help ground you and regain confidence?
Before, it was very difficult for me not to have negative thoughts or a lot of self-criticism. After a few therapy sessions, I finally managed to pose a very important question in my head: “What do I gain from being negative?” Every minute of our time on this planet is valuable, and we should always be grateful for the simplest things. Thank you, universe, for waking up this morning; thank you for having something to eat; thank you for the achievements and failures. Many people would love to have the same opportunity to sometimes do things that we consider so simple but that, unfortunately, for some reason, we cannot.
Can you share a book, film, or artwork that has deeply moved you and influenced your perspective on life?
There is a movie that always moves me a lot, which is “The Pursuit of Happyness”. The main character’s strength in not giving up, even when “reaching rock bottom”, is what every human being should have within themselves to achieve their goals and a happier life. Persistence is the key word.
“The fact that I came from a very poor place and am achieving my goals, even at a very young age, makes me feel a great sense of achievement.”
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Don’t put so much pressure on yourself. Each person realizes their goals in their own time. Don’t compare yourself so much; you’re going in the right direction.
How do you stay connected to nature?
Grounding. It is a simple and extremely pleasurable practice that puts me in direct contact with the soil, balancing our own vital energy and our metabolism. Five minutes a day is enough to balance the body’s energies, allowing them to flow through the ground, grounding them that normally get blocked in your body.
“Thank you, universe, for waking up this morning.”
If you had the power to change one thing about the world, what would it be and why?
The issue of hunger in the world. All human beings should have access to the basics, which is food. It is very sad what happens to thousands of families around the world; for example, in my country, more than 20 million people do not have access to basic food.
Beyond modeling, what are some passions or dreams you have that people might be surprised to know about?
One of my dreams is to create an NGO for underprivileged children in the community/favela where I was born, and this project is already being implemented. And in the future, a little further down the line, a Brazilian food restaurant. One of my passions has always been to study gastronomy.
