Traveling with a film camera adds an important element of presence and mindfulness to my experience. My intention while exploring Portugal was to observe light, shadow, and color and take fewer photos. Compared to my past travels where I was a little too “shutter-happy” I would bounce around taking way too many images. This trip I relaxed a lot more and only took a photo when something was really calling me 100% percent. It was a win-win situation because I enjoyed myself more, used less film, and was overall more happy with my images. Film Photography teaches us to be more intentional which we can apply to our everyday lives. I feel great with the inspiration and images from Portugal that I’m proud to print and hang for a lifetime.
