London-based artist and composer CJ Mirra takes listeners on another melodic journey with his new project, CJ’s Mirra Maze. The latest release, ‘Dreaming In The Valley’, co-written with Kai Campos (Mount Kimbie), presents a modern genre mishmash that offers a bit of everything: chaos, melancholy, good mood, and hope.
On the inspiration behind the track, CJ Mirra says, “Dreaming In The Valley was written when I was sharing a studio with good friend Kai Campos (from Mount Kimbie). Kai came up with that amazing, wonky hypnotic riff. I’d been working on some lyrics about new life and rebirth when my partner was in intensive care while carrying our first child. I wanted to create this simultaneously joyful & melancholic track full of contradictions that sort of prop each other up.” The foundation of the song built from there, enriched with remarkable drum recordings by Kev Bales from Spiritualised. The feel of the music really amplifies those feelings from the lyrics, making it a fitting progression into the Mirra Maze. CJ continues, “It’s great timing too, as another track I’d written with Kai called Bixby Canyon has just been released for the Allen Ginsberg Fall of America Vol.2 Compilation. This project also features Ai Wei Wei, Phillip Glass, and many other artists I’m inspired by.”
“In ‘Dreaming In The Valley’, it’s clear that CJ Mirra’s music continues to be a vessel for his personal experiences.
