The dawn of the new year, already a month past, serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of consistency. Embracing change, making decisive choices, and staying true to oneself are not just ambitious ideals but often require a steadfast commitment and, at times, arduous effort.
Singer-songwriter Cooper Phillip embodies this ethos in her latest single, “She’s A Player“. Cooper shares her insights, stating, “I wrote ‘She’s A Player’ about my journey to fall in love, only to discover that true empowerment and self-acceptance led me to the greatest love of all – the love within.” She adds, “After a period of introspection and transformation, I’ve come to understand my true self as an artist. I’m now focused on creating sincere music and addressing topics that truly resonate with me.”
“She’s A Player” is a nod to the 90s pop era, blending sweet, honey-like melodies with downtempo R&B rhythms and compelling vocals. This mix creates a nostalgic charm with a positive undertone. Cooper, originally from Saratov, a provincial city in Russia, has come a long way. She grew up primarily under the care of her aunt and grandmother while her mother, a classical violinist, was on tour. Despite this, Cooper was deeply influenced by her mother’s passion for music. From an early age, she learned piano and harp, honed her vocal skills in choir, and developed a love for the timeless compositions of Tchaikovsky and Puccini, as well as the vocal prowess of R&B legends like Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. At the age of 19, she moved to New York City, where she began her music career, performing wherever she could, from local clubs to weddings. Cooper thinks back, “I was in survival mode, just hustling, learning, and struggling.”
Now based in Los Angeles, Cooper has an ambitious year ahead, with numerous singles and projects on the horizon. And if there’s one thing music should do, it’s provide happy moments, immerse a moment in a little glow, and Cooper does that exceptionally well. “I’m a free soul with many ideas on how to make the world a happier place,” she expresses. “Through my music, I aim to inspire self-reflection and empowerment. I want my listeners to trust in their intuition and hearts. Believe, create, be happy, and make your own choices. My goal is to demonstrate the strength that lies in each of us.”
