Hailing from Geneva, but born in San Francisco, Anastasia creates a brand of indie that’s difficult to describe with just one genre. Groovy, haunting, and organic, her sound touches on everything from soul to jazz to rock. The singer-songwriter is fresh off the release of her debut full-length effort, Heart of a Star, which knives through several stylistic swells, but is surely cohesive as well. Her current single, “Start a Fire,” is the perfect representative for its parent body of work. Through pocketed drums, ominous strings, and smooth vocals awash in a cavernous space, it’s a soundscape perfectly set for a late night city walk as much as it is a pensive listening session of its own significance.

“‘Start a Fire’ is about how even though you can go through hard times, you can always learn something that is helpful to evolve as a person.”
