Carolina, can you share your journey from Brazil to Barcelona?
In 2019, I did two seasons in Milan. It was a time of extensive travel. I returned to Brazil in December, right when the pandemic began. I chose to leave São Paulo, the fashion capital of Brazil, and moved to a coastal city in the state of São Paulo. It was a great privilege to live by the beach during such a turbulent time like COVID. I fulfilled dreams of learning to surf and being closer to nature. Over time, the desire to live abroad resurfaced. Coincidentally, during the same period, my boyfriend received a job offer in Barcelona. We decided to seize the opportunity. Going to a sunny beach city made the transition easy, and the more time I spend in Barcelona, the more I fall in love with the city.
What do you love about Barcelona?
Barcelona is magical, with a rich and unique architecture that captivates. Each neighborhood seems to have its own soul, offering different lifestyles within the same city. Gaudí’s masterpieces add an impactful and inspiring touch to the cityscape. Exploring the city and encountering his works is an unforgettable experience.
I love immersing myself in the local culture through cultural events, museums, and theaters. I love the variety of tapas bars and restaurants, it’s a great thing do to with friends. The beachside brings a chill vibe, encouraging outdoor activities and a lively atmosphere.
Some Brazilians says that Barcelona is like the Rio de Janeiro of Spain.
With such a rich portfolio, what have been some of the most memorable moments in your modeling career so far?
Working with brands I admire in different parts of the world is incredibly rewarding. It allows me to explore new cultures, meet inspiring and creative individuals, and work in locations I wouldn’t have the chance to experience without my job.
One memorable moment was a campaign for a ski brand set in a snowy mountain. For a Brazilian who had never seen such a landscape, it felt like living a dream. The team was fantastic, creating a harmonious environment. When there’s a genuine connection within the team, the process becomes more enjoyable, ultimately leading to a better result.
“Every year, I strive to be a better version of myself than the current one.”
How do you feel about the current state of diversity and representation in the modeling industry?
The representation of diversity in the fashion industry is crucial. Many models have suffered from the pressures imposed on measurements, and society as well, attempting to reach an unrealistic standard. I’m happy to see this positive progress, but there’s still a long journey ahead to achieve more inclusivity and reduce runway demands. Embracing diversity fosters a more realistic and positive image for everyone. Every form of beauty deserves appreciation.
What are your thoughts on the use of KI and digital alteration in the industry? Do you think it has a significant impact on body image and self-esteem?
I believe that the use of artificial intelligence and digital alteration contributes to unrealistic beauty standards. This significantly impacts body image and self-esteem. I think we can use these technological advancements consciously, avoiding excessive retouching and promoting a greater representation of various types of beauty. It’s important to always remember that imperfections are beautiful; they make us unique.
In your opinion, how important is extroversion in the modeling industry?
I realized how important it is to overcome shyness with confidence in front of clients. Being able to express ourselves through our uniqueness, personality, and communication makes all the difference in the client’s choice and for our professional growth. When we showcase our personality, it’s also when we reveal our strength and attract the best opportunities aligned with who we are.
“I am truly happy and fulfilled when I am surrounded by people who inspires me. When I’m learning something new and expand my knowledge.”
Aside from modeling, what are your passions or hobbies?
I am passionate about art in general. I love drawing, it’s a way for me to express myself on paper. I’m studying graphic design to pursue this passion further. Discovering new artists, visiting exhibitions, attending music concerts, and theater performances are all sources of joy for me.
Play sports is very important to me. It’s where I disconnect from thoughts and focus on the present. Water sports hold a special place in my heart, such as surfing, kitesurfing, and wakeboarding. I also love everything about yoga, both the practice and all the teachings that surround it. Exercising outdoors is a good way for me to feel connected and happy.
What does a typical day in your life look like?
With the modeling job, it’s challenging to have a fixed routine as the days vary a lot. However, I’m consistently dedicating myself to a morning yoga routine, especially when I don’t have an early call time job. For breakfast, I love eating banana pancakes with oats and cinnamon or a bowl of fruits, nuts, and yogurt along with a cup of oat milk coffee. On workdays, I have breakfast and lunch on set. On days without work, after exercising and having breakfast, I organize my design studies. Often, there are castings in the middle of the day At the end of the day, I practice some physical activity, if I haven’t done in the morning and if I’m not tired.
I conclude the day with a relaxing bath, a good book, or a movie.
What makes you truly happy and fulfilled, both in your career and in your personal life?
I am truly happy and fulfilled when I am surrounded by people who inspires me. This human connection, I believe, is one of the best ways for us to evolve and grow as individuals. When I travel to new places. When I’m learning something new and expand my knowledge. When I secure a job that I’ve dedicated a lot to, with a brand that I’ve always dreamed of. I feel joyful creating memories with the people I love and meeting new individuals. When I am surrounded by nature.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Every year, I strive to be a better version of myself than the current one. I hope to become increasingly connected with my creative and artistic side. Continuously evolving in my career, working with brands I admire and dream of working with. Also, working with art and design, expressing myself through it. Living adventures and traveling to places I haven’t had the opportunity to explore yet. Always attracting positive people into my life and spreading love.
